The train has left the station. This resistance movement is unstoppable at this point and will grow even more as we head towards the midterms!!
Good morning Engaged Defenders for Democracy!
Yesterday’s demonstrations
I am delighted to learn that Mark has agreed to be a Co-Demonstration leader with Bruce on Thursdays. Thank you, Mark for stepping up!
We had 14 and a dog at our Visibility Bridge Brigade over I47 and Anderson. I love chatting with Mike who goes out pretty much on a daily basis, especially when it’s not cold as he loves the heat and just walks around with his sign as a walking demonstration as he gets his exercise. More of us need to do this kind of resistance. Also a lovely man, Vincent, stopped by to thank us and also to tell us about a dance performance that that he has choreographed called, “Footprints.” It is in honor of the late John Lewis and all of the work he did and all we need to do. It’s showing at Reynolds Theatre on Saturday evening at 7:30 and Sunday at 3 PM. I told him about our Good Trouble Lives On events on July 18 and August 1. I now am going to the show on Saturday night.

Jenny and Jack had 7 at their Take a Stand Tuesdays: South Cary. A woman who had driven by us came back and parked so she could give us hugs and thank us for being out there. That is 7 three weeks in a row!!
Pam and Melissa had 3 at their Take a Stand Tuesdays: Raleigh. One woman got out of her car and handed me a “Resist Fascism” button ❤️
Maureen had 17 sweaty sign swingers at No Tyranny Tuesdays at Brier Creek.
Gabriel and Joel had 15 rocking at their Protect Democracy at East Club and Roxboro, including one new person who danced much to the delight of passing cars!
Cynthia had 16 with Raleigh Bridge Brigade over NCMA.
The Triangle Resistance United Canvassing Committee met last night. This is a coalition of the Indivisibles and other grassroots organizations across the Triangle. We plan to continue our Phase 1 canvassing next week, likely on Monday and Thursday in Durham. Once we have a location, I will create mobilize links. Reminder that Phase 1 involves voter listening and empowerment using relational canvassing. The hope is that many of us will have conversations with and connect with 15 voters each using the “Adopt-a-Voter” model where we can maintain these relationships all the way to the midterms. So, once you have your 15 voters, you can be done with Phase 1. We need many people doing this across the Triangle as the midterms matter so much!
Please consider helping this woman whose husband was detained.
I love this rendition of the Patriot Front picture from the DC Metro. Please put this on your socials. Thanks, Mark for sending.

Message of the day
Today I want to talk about the fact that this movement is unstoppable. The train has already left the station. Our resistance movement is very different than movements like the Civil Rights Movement where there were a few key leaders at the front who became targets. I remember on the first Indivisible call on the day after Trump was elected. They urged many many people to stand up because when there are many targets, they can’t focus their energy on one or two people. This is exactly what ED4D has done where we have many leaders. People sometimes have told me that they’re worried about my safety. What I know now is that even if something happened to me (and I hope it doesn’t), these demonstrations would continue to happen and ED4D would continue to be vibrant and powerful. I am a small fish, and there are so many leaders who have stepped up and will continue to step up no matter what. I love that Linda is interviewing our Demonstration Leaders so you can see that they are people just like you and me. We have 57 of them (now with Mark stepping up yesterday)!!! And they are taking on this leadership, which is admirable. That’s why we’re going to win because what is happening in ED4D is happening all over the country with people stepping up all over, not just one or two prominent leaders. And we need to keep growing and keep it going. Consistency is key! Courage is contagious!!
Speaking of leaders, please make suggestions for where Demonstration #40 will be. Please email me if you have ideas of where our next demonstration will be, with hopes that you know at least a few people who can help attend and possibly lead. We will make that the focus of the next Cultivating Courage by Covering Corners. I have been talking to someone in Roxboro but not getting very far. They had a No Kings with 80 attendees, which is a great start! We also thought about Mebane or Elon or Reidsville in Rockingham County.
And now is the time that we all need to step up because our elections are at risk. We need to make this movement even bigger than it currently is as we head toward the midterms.
We all need to mobilize to educate voters, register them, protect them, and then be ready to hit the streets in case they try to steal this election. There are too many of us for them to target one or two of us. We can do this folks! Please come to the Good Trouble Lives On potluck social to get to know folks in our movement and eat on Saturday July 18th6pm-8pm at Whippoorwill Park in Durham.
Wake County Indivisible is holding an event on July 26th from 1-4 called Ready, Set, Midterms, at the Raleigh Brewing Company, where they will teach skills needed to keep our elections safe including voter registration, phone banking, canvassing, and more. I plan to attend and hope others will come to hone their skills.
Then, please consider coming to Durham’s main event, Good Trouble Lives On on Saturday August 1st 1-4pm. This indoor event is meant to cultivate new organizers in areas that we need to protect our elections. We need people stepping up to motivate others to get trained and join organizations that are doing this work already (e.g., YouCanVote, Bull City Votes, Coordinated Campaign for voter registration, canvassing, and get out the vote.
We need organizers in these areas:
· Voter education
· Voter registration/Repair
· Poll workers
· Poll protectors
· Canvassing/Get out the vote:
· Postcard campaign:
· Mass action
Nothing is stopping us now folks. We the People Have Power! There are so many more of us than there are of them!! Let’s gooooo!!!
